The program

level  intermediate - advanced

Day 1: Transfer to the airport in the morning for the flight  Kathmandu - Lukla  (2835m)

Beginning of the trek to Phakding 2635m. Lukla,  The most famous mountain landing strip, is now one of the busiest runways in Nepal.  On arrival, we meet our guides and porters. Surprisingly, this high altitude hike starts down the river to Phakding.

Walk  : About 3 hours

Day 2:      Phakding - Namche  3445m.

The first day, surprisingly short for some,  allows us to start the climb to Bazar Namche in the morning. At the top of the hill, a gap in the middle of the trees allows you to see Everest for the first time. If the weather is clear, the summit on the southwest side will be  visible behind the long Lhotse-Nuptse cornice.

Namche is the most prosperous and the largest city in Khumbu  : a market is held  each Saturday  where they sell meat, seeds and vegetables, and Tibetan goods. The traders are Sherpas from the lower hills and Tibetans from the border. Thamserku (6648m), Kwangde Ri (6187m) and Khumbila (5707m) surround the natural circus where Namche is located.

Walk: 5-6 hours

Day 3:      Namche - Khumjung  (3,780m).

This village is one of the most beautiful in Khumbu. The Himalayan Trust has a school here, as well as a medical dispensary for locals and trekkers in Khunde, a nearby village. This day is  like an acclimatization day, which allows our bodies to adjust to the scarcity of oxygen before climbing higher in altitude.

Walk  : 1-2 hours

Day 4:      Khumjung - Tengboche  (3863m).

In the morning, the track descends to Dudh Khosi. There are spectacular views of Ama Dablam (6696m) and Kangtega (6779m) as well as Everest (8848m) and Lhotse (8501m). We cross the river to Phunki Thanga and climb in the afternoon through a forest of
rhododendrons at the top of the hill. Suddenly we have in front of us Tengboche, the main monastery of the Khumbu region.
: The views from here are unforgettable.

Walk  : 6-7 hours

Day 5:      Tengboche - Dingboche  (4412m).

We follow the path down from Tengboche through the rhododendrons to Deboche and cross a bridge where Imja Khol is bubbling under our feet. A gradual climb takes us to the village of Pangboche Inférieur. We are now in the heart of Khumbu, with spectacular views of Ama Dablam. The afternoon hike takes us, along  from one edge of the valley, passing from wide plains to a slit in the valley. The Khumbu  is on the left, until Periche, but we make a detour to the hamlet of Dingboche at the beginning of the valley Imja Tse.

Walk: 5-6 hours

Day 6:      Dingboche       Acclimatization rest day.

We encourage you to try one of two walks  : the shorter option goes up the hill behind Dingboche and descends quickly to Periche, the longest is a long hike up the Imja valley Tse to the top of the Island. The views  on the Lhotse, Ama Dablam and Cho Polu are remarkable, after a few hours we arrive at Chukung, goal of the hike and we return to the bottom of the valley.

Day 7:     Dingboche - Lobuje  (4931m).

We climb up the ledge behind Periche where we stay at altitude, faceted by the views of Tabuche and Cholatse until we reach the Dughla tea houses.  Steep climb up the terminal moraine of Khumbu Glacier  : the top  is marked by chortens in memory of some climbers who did not return from expeditions  of the region. A track leads left into the rock, far from the glacier, to our camp at Lobuche, a set of windswept huts, on a narrow meadow, between the glacier and Lobuche Peak (6156m). At this point, the Lhotse corniche is very imposing.

Walk  : 6-7 hours

Day 8:     Lobuche - Kala Pattar  (5545m)

Long day with an early start, on a track in a rocky area, along the side of the Khumbu glacier to the Gorak Shep teahouses. Behind the 7000m summit of Pumori, which prevents us from seeing the summit of our trek, the Kala Pattar. The route is easy and takes between 90 minutes and 2 hours. All peaks, Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, chukungtse, Ama Dablam and a large number of other lesser peaks can be seen from Gorak shep.

Walk  : 6-7 hours

Day 9:      Gorakshep

After 10 days of trekking,  real breakfast  Everest (BC) base camp often overlooked as the Khumbu Icefall which usually hides the view of the mountain even when expeditions are up the mountain. This route is difficult to find, then return  in Lobuche.

Walk  : 7-8 hours

Day 10  :      Lobuche - Phortse  (3847m).

We descend all morning from Periche to Pangboche, then we follow the west side of the river, staying at altitude, to the Sherpa village of Phortse which extends to the south.  from Tawoche, through the Tengboche valley

Walk: about 5 hours

Day 11:      Phortse - Namche  (3445m).

We now descend through the forest of Dudh Kosi. At a very nice junction we climb to a chorten where there are wonderful views across the valley to Phortse, Tengboche and behind the surrounding mountains. We join the main trail at Khunde and Khumjung, bypassing Everest Vue Hotel.

Walk: 5-6 hours

Day 12:     Namche - Lukla (2835m).

Most people come back to Lukla with a heavy heart. There is something very special about the surroundings, the villages, the people of the high hills and valleys of Khumbu.

Last climb in Lukla to our campsite which is well located and allows a well deserved rest.

Walk: 7-8 hours
